g-Rosetta CanSat team

This is the official website of the g-Rosetta CanSat team.

Our team selected by ESA for taking part in the European CanSat 2015 Competition, representing Greece.

The 2015 European CanSat Competition is organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with AeroEspaco– Air and Space Science Center. The finished CanSats will be launched on a rocket to an altitude of 1 km from the Santa Cruz Air Field, 60 km north of Lisbon, Portugal, on 24-28 June 2015.

The European CanSat competition is part of ESA’s initiative to inspire young people to follow a career in science or engineering, with a view to ensuring the availability of a highly qualified work force in the space industry of the future.

g-Rosetta is one of the 18 secondary school teams that will participate in the 2015 European CanSat Competition.

What is a CanSat?

A CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can. The challenge for the students is to fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume. The CanSat is then launched to an altitude of a few hundred metres by a rocket or dropped from a platform or balloon and its mission begins to carry out a scientific experiment and achieve a safe landing.
